As an update to the March 2017 edition of Medica Connections (in the article “By mid-March, NDC, NDC units needed with HCPCS codes”), drug-related claims that are submitted to Medica on or after March 15, 2017, will require a national drug code (NDC) number and NDC units of measure along with a Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS) code. It was previously stated that the change would be effective with March 12, 2017, dates of service, which was incorrect. This change will continue to apply to both physician and facility claims for all Medica products.
If a claim is rejected due to this new requirement, where NDC details are not included, a corrected claim should be submitted to Medica. Medica apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause.
