Midlands Choice will be compliant in accepting, processing, and transmitting ICD-10 code sets beginning on October 1, 2015, the deadline set forth by the Centers of Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

To be in alignment with CMS protocol, Midlands Choice will follow the basic claims submission guidelines.

• Standard claim transactions with a date of service or date of discharge on or after October 1, 2015 must be submitted with ICD-10 codes.
• Standard claim transactions with a date of service or date of discharge prior to October 1, 2015 must be submitted with ICD-9 codes.

Any standard claims transaction billed with the incorrect diagnosis code version will be rejected and sent back to the billing entity.
